RECF Robotics Competitions

In the RECF Robotics Competitions, student team members make all of the decisions about their robot design, construction, and programming—from blank paper all the way to the RECF STEM World Championship.
In some matches, team members drive the robot. In others, the robot drives itself based on pre-programmed code written by the students. Not every robot and team will play the game the same way, and some ways to score are easier than others. A team’s strategies, and their robot, may change over time. As long as teams follow the rules of the game, they can approach the game however they like!

RECF Engage Robotics Competition

In RECF Engage, students will explore creativity, teamwork, innovation, and engineering in a fun environment designed to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and leaders.
RECF Engage will get students excited about STEM through hands-on learning, documentation, and competition. Students are at the center of everything we do, and they are encouraged to take ownership of their ideas while working collaboratively with teammates and solving real world problems.
Under 12 / elementary school or Under 15 / middle school teams of 2+ students
Robots built of specific VEX IQ®, Hexbug®, and LEGO® electronics and components
Options for cut and 3D printed custom parts

RECF Achieve Robotics Competition

RECF Achieve provides broad robotics access for all students. We encourage student resourcefulness and outside-the-box thinking with multiple robotics system options as well as allowances for custom plastic and 3D printing. 
Under 15 / middle school or Under 19 / high school teams of 1+ student(s)
Robots built from VEX V5®, Robits® by Andymark, and Pitsco Education TETRIX® MAX components
All robots use VEX V5® electronics
Wide range of off-the-shelf pneumatic components
Options for cut and 3D printed custom parts

RECF Inspire Robotics Competition

RECF Inspire provides broad robotics access for all students. We encourage student resourcefulness and outside-the-box thinking with an open system for robot structure, including several major robotics systems, unlimited custom plastic, unlimited 3D printing, custom-designed parts, and basic off-the-shelf consumer parts.
Matriculated students who are currently enrolled in post-secondary education
An RECF Inspire alliance consists of two robots and two drive teams from the same registered team
Each solo driving or coding match can include two robots and two drive teams from the same registered team

RECF Drone Competitions

2025-2026 Signature Event Updates

  1. An Event Partner wanting to apply to host a Signature Event must have hosted events for at least 2 seasons prior to applying. 
  2. Signature Events must use the officially branded award banners for the Excellence Award and Tournament/Teamwork Champions Award.
  3. When hanging field skirts the VEX Robotics logo/brand name can not be covered up on the competition fields.
  4. VEX V5 Robotics Competition Signature Events may have regional capacity and max per organization restrictions lifted 8 weeks before the event if the event is not full (similar to the process already in place for VEX IQ Robotics Competition Signature Events).
  5. Minimum pit size reduced to 8’x 8’ instead of 10’x10’.
  6. Beginning in the 2025-2026 season, the REC Foundation will collect $10 instead of $5 per team registration on all Signature Events. This is to help offset travel costs for REC Foundation staff to support these larger events.

2025-2026 Signature Event Application Reminders

  1. Existing Signature Events only need to complete the Final Application (due by March 31, 2025)
  2. New Signature Event concepts will need to complete the Initial Proposal by January 31, 2025 and if approved, complete the Final Application by March 31, 2025.
