Through the Mazda Foundation, Mazda and its employees work together to proactively help their neighbors and the communities where they live and work to build a better, brighter future.

Grants are being provided to help start new Aerial Drone Competitions (ADC) in middle and high schools near the following cities:

  • Huntsville, AL
  • Irvine, CA
  • Chicago, IL
  • New York City, New York
  • Houston, Texas

These grants represent Mazda’s commitment to students by giving them access to STEM opportunities that allows them to build skills in teamwork, technology, and problem solving.

  • (3) Drone Cases

  • (1) ADC Game Elements Mission 2027

  • (1) ADC Field Elements V3

  • (1) Coach Stipend $300

Any New Middle or High School teams located near:

  • Huntsville, AL

  • Irvine, CA

  • Houston, TX

  • NYC, NY

  • Chicago, IL

Grant Requirements

  1. Register with the REC Foundation for the 2026-2027 Season.

  2. The Primary Coach must pass a background check.

  3. Applicants should be 18 years of age and the designated Primary Coach for the school/organization.

  4. Applicants must be the person allowed to sign terms and conditions on behalf of the school/organization.

  5. If grant funding is awarded, the school/organization must compete in (1) or more REC Foundation-sanctioned events.

  6. Grant teams will be required to return for a second season, even if grant funding is not guaranteed in the second year. Must allow the REC Foundation to share your contact information with the sponsor.

2025-2026 Signature Event Updates

  1. An Event Partner wanting to apply to host a Signature Event must have hosted events for at least 2 seasons prior to applying. 
  2. Signature Events must use the officially branded award banners for the Excellence Award and Tournament/Teamwork Champions Award.
  3. When hanging field skirts the VEX Robotics logo/brand name can not be covered up on the competition fields.
  4. VEX V5 Robotics Competition Signature Events may have regional capacity and max per organization restrictions lifted 8 weeks before the event if the event is not full (similar to the process already in place for VEX IQ Robotics Competition Signature Events).
  5. Minimum pit size reduced to 8’x 8’ instead of 10’x10’.
  6. Beginning in the 2025-2026 season, the REC Foundation will collect $10 instead of $5 per team registration on all Signature Events. This is to help offset travel costs for REC Foundation staff to support these larger events.

2025-2026 Signature Event Application Reminders

  1. Existing Signature Events only need to complete the Final Application (due by March 31, 2025)
  2. New Signature Event concepts will need to complete the Initial Proposal by January 31, 2025 and if approved, complete the Final Application by March 31, 2025.
